Mastering the Art of Timing
I was seated in the corner of my office when a quote repeatedly came to mind.
I found myself in a tough spot, and surprisingly, this quote helped me calm down.
It was one of those days when I felt extremely underconfident, staring at the work that needed completion in the next two months.
Although I had been assigned an additional resource to assist with the workload, I couldn't shake the feeling that there was no way on earth we could finish everything in two months.
In a rush, I messaged my manager, asking if I could get yet another resource just two days after acquiring the previous one.
The moment I sent that message, I knew I regretted it deep down in my heart. It was not the right time. I had just received a new resource, and I should have, at the very least:
Explored my options with the current team, or
Asked my team members to stretch a bit more.
While all of this would have taken time to figure out, instead of waiting and watching how it would play out, I ended up sending that message.
This is a unique instance, but, in general, people often seek all the answers at once. They want to know if everything is going as per the plan. At the slightest discomfort, they would rush to resolve it and bring it to a conclusion which leads to a survival mindset.
A survival mindset is a state of mind where individuals adopt strategies to effectively navigate and overcome challenging situations instead of seeing it as an opportunity for learning and growth.
The growth mindset focus on effort, process and journey rather than end results.
Many people live in this kind of survival mode and frequently wonder why they are not experiencing growth.
Mastering the art of timing can help you make a shift from survival mindset to growth mindset.
Though mastering the art of timing sounds like a philosophical concept, it is the most fulfilling experience that you manage with patience and guidance.
